Frequently Asked Questions
|
- What is TMX?
TMX is a test automation
and management tool that allows your entire test team
to write fully executable test scripts for WinRunner,
TestPartner, SilkTest and other automation engines.
It provides the power and flexibility needed to make
your automated test project effective and efficient.
- What does TMX stand for?
TMX stands
for Test Management and Execution - which are its primary
functions. TMX provides the most effective
tools for managing your test library. With its unique
single database structure - TMX allows
your test team to keep your test cases in sync with
the applications under test.
- Does TMX utilize Keywords?
Yes! Since its creation - TMX has
used Object and Action keywords
as the basis for creating and managing test cases. This
opens the entire automation project to those who in
the past were prevented from participating due to the
technological requirements and constraints. Now your
business and QA analysts can write and manage the entire
automation library - without having to learn cumbersome
and complex scripting languages.
- Do I need to have a test
engine (such as WinRunner, TestPartner or SilkTest) running
with TMX?
TMX is a stand-alone application that
can be used by itself or on a network.
While all of the test creation, maintenance and script
generation can be done without the test engine running,
you do run the generated scripts with the test engine
- so you will need at least one license of the underlying
test automation application available. Note that because
of the TMX architecture, you can have
multiple instances of TMX for each
licensed test engine.
- What database does TMX utilize?
TMX comes standard with Microsoft’s Access.
This has proven to be quite robust and effective for the
majority of testing projects. Typically, there's no need
to utilize other database options.
- Can I use TMX with my Oracle test data base?
Yes. While the standard Access database satisfies the majority
of customers without problem, TMX, does
work with any standard ODBC database such as Oracle or MYSQL.
If your project or organization requires your
testing efforts to utilize and Oracle database, ScriptTech
offers an optional add-in that will provide the schema and
interfaces necessary to get you successfully converted.
- Will TMX work with Mercury’s Quick Test Pro?
QTP is based upon a proprietary design
closely held by Mercury. Our evaluation of the product and
it's overall design had led us to determine an interface
with TMX would not be practical at this time. However, that
may change as the QTP evolves.
- How many test cases will TMX support?
The number of test cases is more a function of the data
base than the application. Using the standard Access database,
some customers have test libraries exceeding several thousand
test cases with no degradation of performance or reliability.
- Can we use TMX to test in non-traditional environments
like PDAs and Cell Phones?
Yes! In addition to WinRunnerTM,
SilkTestTM and TestPartnerTM,
TMX’s architecture allows generation of
almost any procedural code such as Java, C++, VB, C# or
custom scripting.
